The person Ofsted holds accountable for the day-to-day running of the home. Quality of care, safeguarding, staffing standards, statutory notifications — it all lands on their desk.
Every registered children’s home must have one, and the role isn’t interchangeable with generic care management. Ofsted assesses the RM personally as part of the home’s inspection judgment.
The operational backbone of the home. Steps up when the RM is absent, holds the team through the difficult shifts, and often the internal pipeline to the next RM appointment.
Not a named statutory role in the same way as RM and RI, but universally required in practice and increasingly the focus of Ofsted’s staffing-quality judgments.
The provider-side accountable person. Oversees the Registered Manager, represents the home to Ofsted, and carries strategic responsibility — often across multiple settings within a group.
The RI is the corporate accountability layer above the RM. Provider organisations must nominate one, and Ofsted holds them personally accountable for the quality of care delivered under their oversight.
